Ken Vanderpool is our lead for this project. Here's what he says: "For this particular trip I am focusing on winter weather gear – primarily for school age children. However, adult winter gear would be equally welcomed. The tribe / Reservation is “The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe”, their Tribal Headquarters is located in Eagle Butte, SD. I intentionally try not to use the name “Sioux” as it originated from the early French Trappers / Traders. It was intended to be a derogatory name, meaning little snakes or snakes in the grass. Instead I try to always say Lakota. I intend to ensure that the winter gear is given to the School District Superintendent – Cherri Farley, a Lakota Tribal member. Through her, the gifts will be distributed to children who have the greatest need. Any remaining will be distributed as needed.
My intent is to travel towards the end of September or early October. I take all of my donations to the Cultural Preservation Officer, Steve Vance, and he distributes the gifts. Steve and I have become friends and I whole heartedly trust him."
Above are 2 videos, the first--about 15:00--is on Cheyenne River Lakota Reservation. The second--about 6:00-- is on Pine Ridge Oglala Lakota Reservation (click on "Watch on YouTube").
Please bring your contributions of new or gently used and laundered winter clothing to the Paradise United Methodist Church on Tuesdays from 8:30am-12noon and/or Sundays from 9:30am-11am.
Wesleyan Roots consists of 12 sessions designed to last from 40 to 50 minutes each. The sessions are divided into three units. Unit One reminds us of God’s abundant grace for us and identifies grace as the heart of Wesleyan Christianity. Unit Two is all about how we understand the nature and action of God. We explore the tools and ways that we can see God’s action and make meaning of who God is in the world. Finally, Unit Three is about helping us to live Christ-like lives, growing in love with God and others. Led by pastor Rob. ZOOMERS WELCOME.
Come for the fellowship and excitement of exploring God's word together in a small group setting. Zoomers are welcome
